Engine and Drivetrain
The overall goal of the MRT Engine Team was to design a very drivable and
responsive engine package. To meet these objectives, the engine must have a high torque plateau
over a large RPM range. Due to its high and flat factory torque curve, a 2001 YZF600 R2 was chosen.
In order to increase power, a Garrett GT-15V turbocharger is used.
The MRT8 prototype is equipped with a modified Quaife torque-biasing differential connected to the
engine with a sprocket-chain assembly. Its heavy steel casing was replaced by a home made aluminum
one to reduce weight. The casing was also modified to allow for a single brake disk to be mounted
directly onto it.
